Lamlash was the first golf club to be established on the Island.

In 1890 Willie Fernie of Troon (who won the Open in 1883) designed a nine-hole course. Developed by Willie Auchterlonie to an 18-hole layout in 1896 and redesigned by Fernie in 1908 to form much of the present layout. Undulating heathland course with superb views of the area. An undulating course revealing views of Goat Fell, Holy Isle and The Clyde.

Banner Lodge part of The Douglas Hotel is the former home to the local newspaper, The Arran Banner. Arran’s weekly paper was established in 1974 and was under the ownership and editorship of John Millar, who worked and printed the newspaper from the lodge. With some beautiful details, such as the unique stained glass window, this is the ideal place to escape for a romantic break. Open plan, with a gorgeous mezzanine bedroom level, the large bed is accessed by spiral staircase making it wonderfully cosy. The Lodge is complete with underfloor heating through the large living area, which includes a sofa bed option enabling comfortable accommodation for a further 2 guests. This is a perfect base for your stay whilst discovering all that Arran has to offer. As well as this the Banner Lodge is pet friendly, so your pooch can come and enjoy Arran too!
